Bracknell Forest
Following an all-out election, Labour have overturned a huge Conservative majority to take control of Bracknell Forest for the first time since 1997.
Prior to the election, the Conservatives held 37 seats whilst Labour had just four councillors and the Liberal Democrats only one.
However, following a near full-scale swing to Labour, the political composition of the Council is now as follows:
- Labour: 22
- Conservatives: 10
- Liberal Democrats: 7
- Green: 2
In taking control of the Council, Labour gained 18 seats, there were also gains for the Liberal Democrats and Greens.
Paul Bettison lost his seat in Sandhurst ward. Long-standing Deputy Leader Dale Birch also lost his seat in Sandhurst ward.
Several other high profile Conservative councillors also lost their seats, including the Mayor Ankur Shiv Bhandari, Chair of the Planning Committee Cllr Colin Dudley and long-serving councillor Alvin Finch.
Labour saw clean sweep victories in wards such as Hanworth, which had previously been represented by three Conservative councillors.
Bracknell Forest will hold its AGM on Wednesday, 24th May.
