Braintree
Following all-out elections in Braintree, the Conservatives retained control of the Council with a reduced majority of three councillors.
The election saw the Conservatives lose eight councillors, whilst Labour gained seven seats. There were also gains for Independents.
Despite making breakthroughs in a number of different councils throughout the country, this can be seen as a disappointing outcome for the Greens.
The Leader of the Council Graham Butland and Cabinet Member for Planning Gabrielle Spray both retained their seats.
After the election of 49 councillors, the political composition of the Council is as follows:
- Conservatives: 26
- Labour: 9
- Independent: 7
- Green: 4
- Halstead Residents’ Association: 3
Braintree District Council’s AGM will take place on Thursday, 25th May.
