Brentwood

No Overall Control
Elected in Thirds

As expected, Brentwood moved from a Conservative majority into No Overall Control following elections in a third of council seats. The Conservatives lost three seats to the Liberal Democrats.

The changes mean that the Conservatives are on level pegging with the Liberal Democrats at 17 each, with Labour on two and the Independents on one. The expectation is that the Liberal Democrats, Labour and Independents will now form an alliance.

Liberal Democrat leader, Barry Aspinall, heralded a “fantastic” result. Former Conservative leader Chris Hossack did not stand in 2023.

The parties now stand as follows:

Liberal Democrat – 17

Conservative – 17

Labour – 2

Independent – 1
