Horsham
The significant inroads being made by the Liberal Democrats into the Conservatives’ ‘Blue Wall’ of southeastern councils and constituencies progressed further with the party assuming control of Horsham council from the Conservatives.
In a trend replicated across the region, the Liberal Democrats gained 15 seats to acquire an absolute majority in Horsham, with the Conservatives dropping by 21. The Greens also gained five seats, though whether party will be invited into the administration will be seen in the coming days.
Prior council leader Claire Vickers was among those to lose her seat.
The new distribution of seats is as follows:
- Liberal Democrats: 28 seats
- Conservatives: 11 seats
- Greens: 8 seats
- Independents: 1 seat
The council’s annual meeting is scheduled for 24 May.
