Maidstone

No Overall Control
Elected in Thirds

The Conservatives have lost control of Maidstone Council, tipping it back into No Overall Control.

The Council has flip-flopped between Conservative control and No Overall Control, with the Conservatives most recently gaining control in 2021.

In May 2023, elections were held for 18 Maidstone Council seats.

Following the counts the seats stand as follows:

  • Conservative Party: 5 (-4)
  • Liberal Democrat: 5 (-1)
  • Independents: 4 (+2)
  • Labour Party: 2 (+1)
  • Green Party: 2 (+2)

This leaves the total number of seats on the council as follows:

  • Conservative Party: 24
  • Liberal Democrat: 12
  • Independents: 10
  • Labour Party: 6
  • Green Party: 3

Interestingly, it is not only the Conservative Party who have lost out in this year’s elections, with the Liberal Democrats also losing a seat. These seats have been picked up by the Independents, Labour and the Greens who have all doubled the seats they were defending in this election.
