South Holland
The Conservative majority in South Holland District Council was reduced to just one seat at the 2023 local election, with the party sustaining five losses.
Long-term council leader Gary Porter was among the Conservatives to lose his seat, with local independents making a number of gains.
Fellow members of Porter’s cabinet, Peter Coupland, Rodney Grocock and Roger Gambba-Jones all lost their seats, meaning that the incoming administration will see a big shake-up in terms of senior personnel.
The state of the parties following the 2023 election is as follows:
- Conservatives: 19 seats
- Independents: 18 seats
Given the party’s slim majority, and the policy alignment between the Conservatives and Independents on some key issues, it would not be a shock for a change of administration to come about during the new council term.
South Holland’s Annual Meeting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 17 May.
